LOS ANGELES BREAST REDUCTION - TRADITIONAL

Share

Women with large, pendulous breasts may experience a number of varying medical problems caused by the excessive weight of their breasts. These symptoms may include back and neck pain, skin irritation, skeletal deformities, and shoulder grooving. The best candidates for breast reductions are in women who have experienced physical discomfort, or in those who have restricted their activities because of their large breasts.

Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, removes the excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts. The goal of the procedure is to make the breasts smaller, firmer, and more proportional to the rest of the woman's body. The areolar diameter (pigmented area around the nipple) can be reduced, and the nipple-areolar complex can be elevated to a more youthful position. Lastly, improving the contour of your breasts can help improve your self-esteem and self-confidence.

Breast reductions are complex operations that should be performed by properly qualified and board-certified plastic surgeons. Because of his expertise in breast surgery, Dr. Hoefflin performs all techniques in achieving beautiful breast reductions, including the “scarless” or liposuction breast reduction, vertical, and keyhole (anchor, wise) pattern techniques.

During your consultation, Dr. Hoefflin, will explain the several different surgical techniques that can be used, depending upon the amount of volume reduction desired, to help you achieve your desired goals.

ABOUT THE PROCEDURE:

Dr. Hoefflin performs his Los Angeles and Beverly Hills Breast reductions as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with deep sedation or under general anesthesia, administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. The procedure usually takes between two to three hours. All operations are performed within fully credentialed and state-of-the-art surgical facilities.

Small and meticulously placed self-absorbing sutures are placed. Dr. Hoefflin closes all incisions himself, and makes every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible.

ABOUT YOUR RECOVERY:

Patients are discharged home with light dressings and a comfortable, form-fitted bra. Soft bra support (without underwires) is encouraged for 4 to 6 weeks. Slight to moderate bruising and swelling are common for several weeks. A self-massaging protocol is initiated after several weeks to maintain both breast and implant softness. Patients are allowed to shower several days after their procedure.

Our patients are surprisingly free of discomfort due to the long-acting local anesthetic injections and nerve blocks. Pain after this procedure is unusual. Most patients tell us they feel much better than expected following their surgery and are able to return to work and social activities within one week. Light exercise can be resumed after several weeks and an unrestricted return to all activities within six weeks.

RISKS OF SURGERY:

When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, the risk of serious problems after a Los Angeles breast reduction are rare. Specific risks and the suitability of a breast reduction procedure for a given individual can be determined at the time of consultation. You can reduce your risk of complications by closely following your surgeon's instructions both before and after surgery.
