Botox was originally developed to treat blepharospasm, or muscle spasms around the eyes. However, it became apparent that treated patients developed a softer, natural, and more rejuvenated appearance. It was observed that their fine facial wrinkles diminished. Dr. Hoefflin performs Botox treatments to primarily diminish or reduce the lines and wrinkles in the forehead, glabella (area between the eyebrows), crow's feet (area surrounding the eyes), vertical lip lines, and chin. The overall result is a less tired, more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Our Los Angeles Botox treatments temporarily relax the underlying muscles responsible for facial expression by directly inhibiting nerve cell signals. Our Los Angeles Dysport treatments are performed directly in our offices. All patients receive complimentary anesthetic numbing cream and post-injection ice compresses. Typical treatments take 15 minutes. There is no downtime or recovery. As with Botox, patients can immediately return back to work and other social activities.

Typical reactions after your Los Angeles Botox treatments include mild redness or swelling, which usually subsides after a few hours. We recommend you avoid sun exposure until any redness or swelling subsides.

Our professional offices charge $250 per area treated or $10 per unit. The forehead, glabella (area between the eyebrows), and crow's feet (area around the eyes) are each considered one area. An introductory price of $200 per area is offered for new patients. When treating non-facial areas, such as the axilla (armpit) or palms (hands) for "hyperhidrosis", individual prices are variable depending upon need of unit correction.

How does Botox work?

Botox Cosmetic®, or Botulinum exotoxin type A, is a highly purified protein from a family of naturally occurring muscle-relaxing compounds. Botox causes facial muscle relaxation and decreased hyperactivity by directly inhibiting nerve signals that are sent to muscles. It is the repetitive facial expressions that is responsible for causing crow's feet, frown lines or forehead lines. This in turn reduces the wrinkles and lines on the skin surface. In addition, while Botox inhibits negative facial expressions, it also enhances the positive expressions of our face. The overall result is a less tired appearance, and a more rejuvenated youthful look. Short of surgery, Botox is the only way to slow down the formation of wrinkles caused by the muscle movements of facial expression.

What are the typical injection sites for Botox on the face?

Botox is principally used to minimize or diminish the deep lines and wrinkles in the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows, and "crow's feet" (lines around the eyes). In addition, Botox can be used to subtly change the musculature of the mouth and lips to produce a more aesthetically pleasing and attractive mouth contours.

When will I see results from a Botox treatment?

Typical results can initially be seen as early as 48 hours after treatment. While most results occur within seven days, maximal results may often take up to two weeks.

Is Botox used for non-cosmetic reasons as well?

Yes. Botox is frequently used for treatment in a number of varying pre-existing medical conditions, such as:

How often do I need Botox?

Typical injections are performed every 3 to 6 months. The duration of Botox's effects depend upon an individual's metabolism, the quantity injected, and the areas injected.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

What are the side effects from having Botox?

Dr. Hoefflin performs all office injections himself, and does not rely upon Physician Assistants or Registered Nurses to inject patients in his office. When administered by a properly qualified physician, Botox is an extremely safe treatment with very few side effects. There are no permanent side effects with properly used Botox. The most common side effects, which are temporary and mild, are bruising and eyelid drooping in 1% of patients. Less frequently occurring adverse reactions are pain, swelling, and redness at the injection site. In very rare cases, some experience temporary and mild flu-like symptoms or mild headaches that resolve by themselves.

Who should not use Botox?

Patients with active infections at the proposed injection site(s), or patients with known hypersensitivy to any ingredient in the Botox formulation should not receive treatment. In addition, patients with known neurological disorders such as Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Myasthenia Gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Do we only use certified Botox?

Allergan, is a medical and pharmaceutical company, and the only producer of Botox Cosmetic®. The authenticity of Botox can be confirmed by reviewing the distinct Allergan hologram on each Botox vial. During each injection consultation, Dr. Hoefflin is happy to demonstrate the vial and it's accompanying hologram. That way, you can be rest assured you are receiving real Botox.
